A New Approach to Regeneration
Local Supply

There are considerable opportunities within Plymouth to develop local supply chains and to assist local companies to develop their capabilities to engage in e-commerce and e-procurement.

Action Group

A group has been called to discuss a proposal for a "Buy Plymouth First" project and the initial meeting took place in December 2006.

The group is chaired by David Young, Managing Director of The Airport Business Centre Limited and members include Plymouth Chamber of Commerce, Plymouth City Council, Federation of Small Businesses, South West Regional Development Agency, Tamar Science Park, The Wolseley Trust, the Millfields Trust, Business Link for Devon and Cornwall and Enterprise Plymouth.

Aims and Objectives

The group's overall objective is to support Plymouth’s businesses to win a greater number of local contracts. As part of this the group is taking forward a number of projects and these include:

- Increase the amounts of goods and services Plymouth City Council procures online from Plymouth-based companies
- Assist businesses to be able to positively respond to the opportunities afforded to them through e-commerce in general
- Work with Derriford Hospital to enhance local supply linkages, in particular as part of their planned £650 million PFI investment
